Lego Robot Building Competition
Best of luck to three of our 2nd year students who are taking part in a lego robot building competition this Thursday 17th February 2011. The girls, together with their teacher Ms Quilter, have been working very hard over the last few months to design and programme a robot to perform certain tasks. 1A Cake Sale for Irish Cancer Society
Well done to 1A class group who recently organised a cake sale for the Irish Cancer Society. The girls raised almost 200 for the worthy cause and are pictured making their presentation on the right on Monday 14th February 2011.
2nd Year Volleyball Tournament
Four second year classes competed on Thursday 27th January 2010 in a fun volleyball tournament in the school hall. 2D, 2E, 2F and 2J were playing. Costumes were creative and spirits were high and everyone had a great time. Thanks to Ms. McGinley and Ms Hayes who organised the event.
TY BIS Innovation Week
Well done to four of our TY students - Emma Dorgan, Liz Dorgan, Aoife Cheung and Amy Finn, who have been chosen to take part in the Business Information Systems (BIS) Transition Year Business Innovation Programme 2011, commencing on Monday February 14th in the BIS department at UCC. During this week, each student will participate in a range of activities led by BIS staff. Activities include Social Networking - Business or Pleasure; Introduction to Computer programming; Business Communication and Presentation skills; using technology to save lives; history of computer games and Why IT matters.
Congratulation to Carolyn O'Connell, one of our sixth year students who is one of 60 finalists Irish Doodle 4 Google Competition. Over 2000 entrants were received by Google and now it is down to the public vote. The four finalists will be presented with a laptop and from them, one winner will be chosen. The winning entry will be displayed on Google Ireland for 24 hours and the winning school will receive a technology grant for ?10,000! We need ye all to get VOTING quick for Carolyn's Doodle. 1st Year Futsal All-Ireland Champions January 2011
Congratulation to our first year students who were crowned All-Ireland Futsal Champions in Gormandstown, Co. Meath on Tuesday 18th January 2011. We are so proud of all of the girls who played so well in all their games. Congratulations also to their coaches - Mr. Fergal O'Leary, Mr. Bernard O'Connell and Mrs. Pauline Hayes.
Senior Health Days in the school took place on Mon 17th and Tues 18th January 2011. All fifth year and leaving cert students took part in the activities. The focus was on a "healthy me" and varioius activities and events were held throughout the week to promote healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle and a healthy me. Speakers came to talk to the students on the transition to third level, nutrition, study skills, beauty and alcohol and substance abuse. The students really enjoyed the days.
The annual school show took place for three nights from 19th - 21st November 2010 in the Firkin Crane Theatre in Shandon. The transition year students performed South Pacific; first year students performed excerpts from Oliver and 2nd and fifth year pupils performed a medley from Billy Elliot. The show was a huge success!
Congratulations to Olivia O'Callghan, our headgirl of 2009 - 2010 who was recently awarded one of the prestigious JP McManus' scholarships based on her excellent Leaving Certificate Results in Chemistry. Olivia was one of the highest performing students in Ireland in the Chemistry exam in 2010 and we are very proud of this wonderful achievment. Olivia is currently in first year of Pharmacy in University College Cork. Well done Olivia!
Congratulations to our first year Futsal Team who were crowned Munster Champions on Tuesday 16th November 2010 in Nenagh! The students fought off six other school teams to victory and are now going on to the All-Ireland Futsal Championship in Dublin on December 7th 2010. We are extremely proud of all our students and look forward to lots more success in the future.
Congratulations to Amanda Buddden, one of our Leaving students who represented Ireland in the World Cup Women's Scocer Competition in September. Amanda is a dedicated and committed soccer player and we are very proud of her.
Junior Health Week in the school took place from Mon 18th - Fri 12th November 2010. All first year, second year and third year students took part in the week. The focus was on a "healthy me" and varioius activities and events were held throughout the week to promote healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle and a healthy me. Speakers came to talk to the students on nutrition, internet safety, healthy lifestyle and alcohol and substance abuse. Terry Kingston, former Irish Rugby Captain was one of our special visitors. Second Year students held a healthy picnic and first year students held a dance-off to promote healthy living. Transition Year students made use of the opportunity to sell healthy frozen yogurt and fruit to interested students.
