| Some of the aims of the Maths Syllabus are: |
| to ensure a firm understanding of mathematical concepts and relationships and to develop confidence and competence in basic skills as well as the ability to formulate and solve problems. |
| to reinforce and further develop in the young person the knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies acquired at primary level; |
| develop the young person’s personal and social confidence, initiative and competence through a broad, well-balanced general education; |
| to develop an appreciation of the power and beauty of mathematics and of the manner in which it provides a useful and efficient system for the formulation and solution of problems. |
| prepare the young person for the requirements of further programmes of study, of employment or of life outside full-time education; |
